LOCAL SHOPPING
The Houlton downtown area has beautiful architecture, a lovely Chamber of Commerce/Historical Museum, several small parks, nice places to eat and some cute shops.
Summer Saturdays offers the Community Market.
The County Co-Op & Farm Store offers a great spot for lunch and checking out local art and handmade pieces.
North Country Gifts - beautiful items and selection!
The Temple Cinema - our own movie theatre! We love to watch movies in this amazing building.
Betty Marie's - kids and adults alike - a fun to store to go into!
Macs Trading Post - need some gear?
Historical Building Walking Tour - as you walk the downtown, you'll see some buildings with a special placard and a QR code! Use your smart phone and learn about the history of the building!

KAYAKING
Many guests are looking for places to kayak. Our little river doesn't let you go very far (unless you are here in the spring). So, we recommend:
Hodgdon Mill Pond in Hodgdon, about 30 minutes south. You can google your way to Anderson's Mill Pond Dairy Bar (see link in food section) and that will take you right to the drop in spot by the dam.
The Aroostook State Park (see link in hiking section) is also a place to take those kayaks
Our other suggestion is in Patten

LONG & SHORT DAY HIKING
SHORT SUGGESTION 1:
Just up the road is the Station Road which brings you to the ATV Trail. About a half mile walk in brings you to a wonderful view from the Trestle Bridge.
SHORT SUGGESTION 2:
Houlton has a lovely, easy River Walk in the downtown starting at the Gateway Footbridge. The trail is clearly marked with lots of educational boards along the way.
SHORT SUGGESTION 3:
Aroostook State Park in Presque Isle is about 45 minutes north. Great views and you'll get your cardio up a little bit.
LONG SUGGESTION 1:
Mt. Katahdin at Baxter State Park is a 90 minute drive from Riverbend Cabin. It's best to plan this trip into your visit. The park fills up fast so you need to be there early, even if you are day hiker.
We can help with directions if needed.

DON'T WANT TO COOK?
Here are our favorite places to eat.
Suggestion 1: Blue Moose - right up the road. It's under new ownership and they offer ethic dishes alongside local favorites.
Suggestion 2: The Rusty Crab - Seafood in the County?? Yes. Fried food at it's best-light, fresh and clean. They are very popular. We had a fantastic Seafood Platter.
Suggestion 3: The Vault - another favorite of ours for a nice sit down dining experience.
Suggestion 4: The Courtyard Cafe - a long time favorite of Linda's! They only do curbside right now.
Suggestion 5: Anderson's Mill Pond Dairy Bar - this place is worth the drive down to Hodgdon, especially if you have a kayak or canoe because you can drop into the Mill Pond, too!
